Day 1 24.03.2023
The CME was started with an inaugural address from Dr Chandramouleeswari K , the secretary of
Tamilnadu and Pondicherry chapter IAPM, followed by welcome address by Dr Shanthakumari S, Prof &
Head, Department of Pathology, PSGIMSR.
The forenoon session started with a lecture by Dr Renu mariam Thomas on handling of renal biopsies
followed by a lecture on practical approach to renal biopsies by Dr Barathi G. the sessions were
moderated by Dr Chandramouleeswari. K.
The next session was an interactive case based discussion on renal diseases. There was a podium
presentation of posters by postgraduates and faculty of various institutions.
Post-lunch session was taken by Dr Meera Thomas on morphology and immunofluorescence of
vesiculobullous disorders in which the delegates actively participated in the case discussions.
The last lecture was on techniques of immunofluorescence and role of BIOCHIP-IIF in the diagnosis of
bullous disorders by Dr Sakthisankari S.
There was a quiz session for postgraduates.
The program ended with a valedictory function and distribution of certificates to poster and quiz
winners.
Day 2 25.03.2023.
On the day of workshop, the first session was on techniques of immunofluorescence –stepwise by Dr
Sakthisankari S.
The delegates were divided into groups for hands on session on direct immunofluorescence and
demonstration of BIOCHIP- IIF. There was an active participation by all the delegates.
The session ended with vote of thanks followed by distribution of certificates.
Dept of Pathology: National CME on “Updates in Breast Pathology”- April 13,
2023
The Department of Pathology SRM Medical College Hospital and Research
Centre (SRM MCH & RC) conducted a National CME on 13.04.23 on the topic –
“Updates in Breast Pathology under the aegis of the Tamil Nadu and Pondicherry
chapter of IAPM (Indian Association of Pathologists and Microbiologists). There were
more than 150 delegates registered from different parts of India, from more than 35
Medical Colleges and Hospitals and more than 50 Scientific posters were presented by
Post Graduates from Pathology, General Surgery and Radiology. Eminent speakers
and chairpersons from various leading hospitals in India were invited to impart basic
and advanced aspects related to the diagnosis of a wide range of breast diseases.
The first Scientific session commenced by 9.15am (Venue: Hippocrates Hall, 3 rd
floor, SRM Medical College building) on the topic ‘Surgeon’s perspective on Breast
lesion’ by Dr. Selvi Radhakrishnan (Oncosurgeon, Chennai Breast Centre) chaired by
Dr. R. Balamurugan (Professor of Surgery & Medical Superintendent, SRM MCH) and
Dr. D. Jayakumar (Oncosurgeon, SRM MCH & RC). The next session was ‘Mimics on
Breast Carcinoma’ by Dr. Sandhya Sundaram (Prof & HOD, Sri Ramachandra Medical
College and President of TNPCIAPM) chaired by Dr. K. Chandramouleeswari
(Professor of Pathology, Madras Medical College and Secretary- TNPCIAPM) and Dr.
G. Shivashekar (Professor of Pathology, SRM MCH & RC)..
The next session was
followed by ‘Biomarker testing in Breast Cancer’ by Dr. Sangeeta B Desai ( Prof & HOD
of Pathology, Tata Memorial Hospital, Mumbai) and the chairpersons were Dr. Leena
Dennis Joseph (Professor of Pathology, Sri Ramachandra Medical College) and Dr.
Jaison Jacob John (Prof & HOD of Pathology, SRM MCH)..
The post-lunch session started with the topic ‘Papillary lesions of Breast ‘ by Dr.
Elanthenral Sigamani (Professor of Pathology, Christian Medical College, Vellore)
chaired by Dr. Mary Lilly (Prof & HOD, Sree Balaji Medical College, Chennai) and Dr. P.
Kalaivani (Professor of Pathology, SRM MCH) and the last session was ‘A roller coaster
ride of Breast lesions at Cytology’ by Dr. Usha Kini (Professor of Pathology, St Johns
Medical College, Bangalore) chaired by Dr. Valarmathi (Professor of Pathology, Govt.
Stanley Medical College) and Dr. S. Muthu (Professor of Pathology, SRM MCH)
The Poster Presentation by PG’s and the Winners were selected by the Panel
members in the Scientific committee and final evaluation was done by Dr Salapathi
Shanmugam (Consultant Pathologist, Apollo Specialty Hospitals, Vanagaram, Chennai)
and Dr. C. D. Anand (Professor of Pathology, SRM MCH).
The CME programme was inaugurated earlier in the day with Welcome address by Prof.
Jaison Jacob John (Prof & HOD, Dept of Pathology, SRM MCH & RC), Inaugural
address by Prof. A. Sundaram (Dean, SRM MCH &RC), Presidential address by Dr. Lt.
Col. A. Ravikumar (Pro-Vice Chancellor. Medical & Health Sciences, SRMIST) and
special address by Dr. Sandhya Sundaram (Prof & HOD, Sri Ramachandra Medical
College and President of TNPCIAPM) in the august presence of Dr. K.
Chandramouleeswari (Professor of Pathology, Madras Medical College and Secretary-
TNPCIAPM) and Prof. K.V. Leela (Associate Dean, Student Affairs) and Dr. R.
Balamurugan (Medical Superintendent, SRM MCH & RC),

The prizes for Best posters were distributed by Prof. A. Sundaram (Dean, SRM MCH &
RC) at the Valedictory function. In the Clinical category, the First Prize was awarded to
the Dept of Radiology, SRM MCH and the Second prize to Dept of General Surgery. In
Pathology category (SRM MCH students not competing for prizes), the First prize went
to Sri Amrita Institute of Medical Sciences, Kochi, Second prize to Tagore Medical
College, Chennai and Third prize to Christian Medical College, Vellore.

The delegates had an excellent academic feast with basics and latest advanced
concepts and included interactive sessions. A very positive feedback was obtained from
delegates all around India regarding the scientific content, calibre of speakers, conduct
of the Conference, hospitality and the venue at SRM Medical College Hospital & RC,
Kattankulathur.

Vinayaka Mission’s Kirupananda Variyar Medical College & Hospitals, Salem has conducted International CME in association with IAPM (Tamil Nadu & Puducherry chapter) which was held on 17.12.2022 by Online mode.
Theme –Updates on Male Genital System. The International CME was started with prayer song & the organizing secretary Dr.R.Thamilselvi has welcomed all the delegates.

The first scientific session was started on Current concept & Approach to Testicular tumors by Guest speaker Dr.B.H.Srinivas, Additional Professor, JIPMER, Puducherry. The session was very much informative & illustrative & he also enlightened us with latest update. Followed by Prostate Cancer – update 2022 Visiting Professor, SRIHER, Chennai. Dr.Swaminathan Rajendran, nice & informative & illustrative talk.
Last session of Interactive Slide seminars of Testicular & Prostate lesions by Dr.Karthik Kalyana Sundaram., Consultant Histopathologist, Stoke, UK. & Presentation was done by Post graduates from GCMCH, Kovai & GMKMMC&H, Salem.
The Guest speakers were honoured by e-Certificate & Memento & vote of thanks was delivered by Dr.M.Roopmala. Question & Answers session were discussed & ended with National Anthem.
